St Martin's School provides a cheerful, hardworking community in which parents, staff and pupils are all involved. We believe a number of elements are of prime importance to a child's education and these embody our aims:
To provide pupils with the greatest possible individual attention in a disciplined and caring community.
To enable them to obtain the appropriate academic qualifications together with practical skills which will act as a foundation for their subsequent education.
To help pupils to grow up to be lively and interesting people; to express their own opinions as well as being prepared to listen and accept other points of view.
To encourage pupils to develop a sense of self-discipline as well as responsibility to the community in which they live and go to school.
Children at St Martin's are prepared for Common Entrance to Public Schools at 11+, 12+ and 13+. The school prides itself on keeping up to date with the National Curriculum, a confident re-entry to the State system is guaranteed where necessary.
Extra curricular activities are also very important; these include skiing, karate, chess, science, modern dance, ballet, drama, music, RSPB, St John's Ambulance. There are holiday activities on Exmoor and the Continent.
A new Nursery Department in spacious accommodation and staffed by NNEB members is open for 50 weeks a year, catering for children from 3 months until rising 5. It provides the highest standard of care for young infants, as well as helping the 4 and 5 year olds to prepare for school.
